Previous experience -
Class have understanding of gender, nouns/plural etc and have previously been taught colours and that if they are things as well as colours they do not change. They also have a concept of colour comes after noun.


CfE targets -

MLAN 2-05b I can participate in familiar collaborative activities including games, paired speaking and short role plays.

MLAN2-08a I work on my own and with others to understand text using appropriate resources, demonstrating my understanding by matching written words to pictures, and by reconstructing the text in a logical sequence.

MLAN 2-14a I use my knowledge about language and success criteria to help me, and i can check theat i have written familiar words and phrases accurately.

Learning Intention -

The children will be learning new vocabulary for items of clothes ( t-shirt, jersey, jeans, skirt, dress, shoes, trainers, socks, jacket)

The children are learning the vocabulary for he/she/they are/is wearing


Success Criteria -

The children will be able to pronounce and spell correctly the clothes vocabulary.
Children can list four items of clothing (accurate spelling)
Children can use gender specific description of clothing


Methods - Observing children throughout lesson by listening to them repeating vocabulary. Use of show me boards when required for correct spelling. Assessing suitcase task through written work and observing children within washing line activity and plenary activity.

Setting context -
  • Mika music introcuction
  • Introduce Power Point of clothes - not to be over stimulating

Teaching the learning intention -

  • Inform children of learning intention and success criteria
  • Intoduce flash cards to revise colours previously taught have children repeat these and i will listen to assess for correct pronunciation
  • Children receive clothes vocabulary sheet each for support ( have these disrtibuted on the table before they enter class) ( 5 Min)
  • Implement washing line activity, teacher to call out items of clothing (see power point) and children to place these correctly on their washing line (working in groups mixed abilities) (10 min)
  • Inform children of success criteria intended for suitcase task ( correct vocabulary ) Ask children how confident they feel in carrying out this activity?
  • Task - The children are staying overnight at the Beast's castle and they have to pack an overnight bag. Children have to choose at least four items of clothes from their vocabulary list which they would like to take in their suitcase and write these down in their jotters. Once completed peer assess then have one child from each group collect work in and place on teachers table. (20 Min)

Plenary - Using IWB with power point, display images and of Bell and Gaston, Children have to write down on show me boards what he/she, they are wearing. T.P correct spelling/agreement with gender etc in target language in order to consolidate and embed previous learning (10 Min)
